LFW S/S 2014 : my favourite collections

LFW has just finished showing all the looks for Autumn Winter 2014 but personally I don't want to think about how it's going to be rainy and cold again. I'm looking forward to wearing summery clothes again so I thought I'd skip back six months to the Spring Summer collections, which were shown last September, and show you my faves for this coming season!!

SISTER BY SIBLING :
Pink isn't going anywhere for summer. The prettiest pink as well as buttery yellow were used in conjunction with plenty of denim to create Sister By Sibling's fifties inspired collection. Teeny knicker shorts, light knits emblazoned with phrases as well as structured florals make this a super summery collection.

OSMAN :
I love the simple and elegant and structured shapes in this collection which perfectly meet monochrome and pastel colour blocking with Eastern inspired tree prints.

ASHISH :
Urban meets tribal with exciting bright hair and so so so so so many sequins! As a huge sequin lover obviously I'm a big fan. Everything is covered in them from the deconstructed denim, slouchy logo vests and the cute bags made to look like their from a grocery shop.

In Bristol the fashion shows tend to reflect the season that's actually coming up... So I'll be at the Harvey Nichols Spring Summer show again on the 25th of March (you can read about last years here). I'll also be at the Bristol Fashion Week press show as well as the blogger show and South West Bloggers cocktails afterwards! Will I see any of you there?

If you're not off to any of those shows don't fret, you can win 2 tickets to a Bristol Fashion Week catwalk show of your choice with my student newspaper, WestWorld! Simply comment on their post to win.

A day out at : Castle Drogo in Devon

Luckily the weather let me travel back down to rainy Devon this weekend (although the train took twice as long!) as my grandma & granddad have come down from Lincolnshire to visit. Yesterday we decided to do a bit of sightseeing and visited Castle Drogo.

Castle Drogo was built in the 1910s & 20s to be the family home of rich business man Julius Drewe and was the last castle to be built in England. As it was built with the new materials of the time the flat roof never withstood the rain and it has always leaked... it currently resembles a giant mass of scaffolding as it is undergoing huge refurbishments.

If that kind of thing interests you there is a documentary on Channel 4 tonight; 'The Edwardian Grand Designer' which goes behind the scenes of the renovation at Castle Drogo and finds out about the life and work of the architect Edward Lutyens.

There were lots of cool things in the castle; a beautiful painting of Lady Frances, a fantastic golden electric tea-cup warmer and a letter clip that I would quite like to own... however our tour was less than enlightening as our guide was pretty grumpy! After the tour we went to the lovely cafe and my mum had a cream tea whilst my grandma and I had cheese scones and gigantic hot chocolates.

I'm back off to Bristol today, unfortunately on the bus as the train isn't running! What did you get up to this weekend?

zebra love ♥ d.i.y valentine's card & pom pom cushion

zebra valentine's day card

Firstly, some cool things you might not know about the zebra:

01. A zebra's stripe is like a fingerprint and is unique to each zebra.
02. They can turn their ears in almost any direction and use this to communicate with each other.
03. There are actually three different species of zebra.
04. A cross between a zebra and a donkey is called a 'zebdonk'! Ha!

My boyfriend has got a bit of a thing about zebras so this is the card that I made him for our first Valentine's Day... well I traced it with some black pen and grey felt-tip, but that counts right?

I actually made this cushion for him at Christmas but I thought it would go nicely in this post too! I loooove this pom pom trimming and will definitely be making a cushion like this again. The print on this fabric is really cool but the fabric itself is a bit thin and stretchy which made it quite difficult to sew, so next time I would use a thicker fabric. There's a nice tutorial on how to make pom-pom cushions on this blog. Unlike the tutorial I didn't put in a zip and went for the easier folded flap method on the back (a bit like a pillow case) which was a lot easier. I picked up the cushion that is inside for only £1.50 at Wilkinsons.

Have you made any D.I.Y gifts recently?
