new beginnings

Hello everyone, as you may or may not know, I have just moved away from my lovely home in the tiniest town in Devon and come to live in the big bad city of Bristol to start university, so sorry if my posts are a little bit erratic! I'm trying to get used to living on my own, going to lectures and handling freshers flu so I might take a while to settle down. I'm super excited about living in Bristol though as it  is such a diverse and exciting city with so much going on. I can't wait to explore it properly and take some pictures to show you! The one above is from the top floor of my student halls, I'm living pretty central.
Has anyone else just started uni? How are you finding it? And does anyone live in Bristol? I'd love to know some nice places to go! My directional skills are awful though!

monthly music - september

I really enjoyed writing the last post for my new monthly music feature, so here is this months musical selection! Its very chilled, so if you need de-stressing before going back to college or uni, these are the tunes for you!

number one: Daughter 'Medicine' Daughter came to my attention due to the wonderful youtube channel watchlistentell, if you like this then check out some of their other videos, the video of Peggy Sue singing 'The Sea, The Sea' is one of my favourites. If I can to compare twenty-one year old Enya Tonra, the captivating vocalist and multi-instrumentalist in Daughter, with another artist, I'd say she Florence Welch... but on a black and white television with the volume turned down!

number two: Delilah 'Shades of Grey' this new release from the beautiful brunette is different from her previous spine tingling singles, such as Breathe, as it has a lot more of a poppy feel to it! Topshop have a nice feature on their site at the moment where you can shop Delilah's look and read an interview as well :)

number three: The XX 'Angels' This is the first single from the long awaited new album 'co-exist' which was released yesterday. Me and my boyfriend, listened to their last album all the time and we loved it! This song is gorgeous and mellow with such a catchy, if a little dirge-y, hook which typical of them. If I were to make a criticism it is that, while I do love it, this song doesn't move away from their debut album at all, in fact when I first heard it I didn't even realise it was new! It would be nice to see them try slightly different styles, though we'll have to see what the new album is like!

number four: Julio Bashmore 'Au Seve' Can't really say much on this other than tell you that it was the tune of the summer. OH BABY!

Which tunes have you been listening to this summer? Are you looking forward to seeing anyone live this year?

that old familiar tweet tweet tweet - papier mache birds

I thought as a bit of a break from all the fashion, I'd show you some crafty stuff I've been up to. These little cuties were inspired by the work of Abigail Brown which I've already showed you in my inspiration series. So maybe they are made of papier mache rather than carefully pieced together fabric but I was obviously heavily influence by Neil Buchanan off of Art Attack in my youth!

Hope you like them, I think they would look cute hung up by thread, or made into a little mobile... I've got to start thinking about interior design as I'm moving out on Friday to go to University!! Have you got any ideas for decorations in my teeeny little room?
Hello to all of my new followers, thank you so much for all of your interesting comments, be sure to leave a link for your blog!

IFB: Links A La Mode & Project #63

My post about Tapestry as a new trend this Autumn, was selected to appear in IFB's weekly round-up! Here are the other great submissions :)

There must be something in the air this week. Something that made bloggers think more about their own personal style and pull out all the stops to look unique, creative, and fabulous. Hmm…I can’t think what that might be…? Between multiple blogging conferences in NYC and the kick off of Fashion Week (what, you hadn’t heard?), it was clear that this week, style bloggers were ready to bring it. Read on for fantastic posts on fall trends, and a healthy dose of street style fashion too. Just because you’re not in New York doesn’t mean you can’t pretend!

SPONSOR: Shopbop : Wang, Haus Alkiree, Alex Kramer, Cynthia Desser, Freda Salvador, Sandra Weil, Angela Scott, Sale, Winter Boots, Smythe & True Royal   If you would like to submit your link for next week’s Links à la Mode, please register first, then post your links HERE. The HTML code for this week will be found in the Links a la Mode widget on the right side of the blog, and will be published later today. ~ Jennine

AND even better they also featured my ultimate fashion week look, in their IFB Project Round Up. Thanks!

IFB Project #63 Ultimate Fashion Week Look - Tapestry Style

gothic baroque rococo florals

Hello all my new followers! Thank you so much for all the feedback on the first post in my series on the season's trends. Loads of you asked how I would wear the tapestry trend... as it might be a bit of a tricky one to pull off. In conjunction with this weeks IFB Project, which was to show your ultimate fashion week look, I've put together this simple little outfit with the focal piece being this cute River Island tapestry style skirt which I chose to pair with plain black items. I've styled it up with some rococo style jewellery and some dark lipstick to reference the new gothic and baroque trends, which I will be writing about soon :) I hope the dark lipstick think is something I am brave enough to try this winter! How would you wear this trend?
